YFC is a Voluntary Youth Organisation for young people aged between 10 & 26 years. It is a registered National Charity and provides opportunities for “fun, learning and achievement”.
Young Farmers Clubs date back to the 1920’s and were started to give young people in the countryside a way of socialising with other young people in their areas. Today there are over 650 clubs and 22,000 members in England and Wales, making it the largest rural youth organisation of its kind in the UK.
The main function of clubs these days is similar, but today YFC offers young people so much more than just a social life. It is not solely a Club for farmers and their sons and daughters, or just for people involved in agriculture, today’s members come from all walks of life but share a common interest in the rural environment and enjoy sports, outings, interesting talks and demonstrations, travel, disco's.….. You don't have to be a farmer to be a Young Farmer!
By joining a Young Farmers Club you open the door to a world of opportunity where you can meet new people, learn skills, help the community, travel abroad, compete in a wide range of competitions and training at county, regional and national level, including sports, crafts and life skills. And above all – have a great time doing it.
Each Club is ‘Run by the Members for the Members’ which means that you really can have your say and make a difference to yourself and others. Members are responsible for their own activities and finances, electing Club Officers each year to ensure the continuity and vibrancy of the Club. Organising their programmes to reflect the diversity of the clubs’ membership and meet the changing needs of their members. Each Club affiliates to its County Federation who in turn is affiliated to the National Federation.
